I can definitely relate to this in a fashion sense, but one big way I've been able to incorporate pieces of my old self is by blogging again. It has been a way I've bridged the gap between my old life and now.

In college, I had a term as EIC of my school's paper. I blogged back then too. (tumblr days) Nothing serious in that area, just for fun. I always journaled & wrote poetry, but never imagined that I'd ever share it one day. After all, I was determined to use my fine art skills in the realm of graphic design- a self proclaimed visual artist. Transfered to art school in Chicago and mainly focused on that.

Like your story, when I became a mother I was also faced with a choice and desire to step away from my career.

As beautifully demanding as motherhood is, all of that just fell away. I became a stay at home mother. (Not so easily so, as I did try to work on our local newspaper a couple of times. It simply did not work.)

Family life was my new passion. It still is. Along the way I was sad that I wasn't a painter anymore, a designer anymore, all my old stories about myself felt like a distant memory. However, I realized... I still write. I wrote poems apon poems, I kept journaling throughout my jouney. & that's where it all clicked, it was right there all along, I AM a writer. I am a poet at that, I am still creative, I still do create.

Blogging found its way back to me through my Etsy shop endeavers. I was combining my personal quotes with my design skills and having them printed on merch like coffee mugs, totes, & journals. They offer a blog platform for sellers and that's where I started blogging again in order to tell the story behind my little POD shop.

During my second pregnancy, I had to take a break and return to solely focusing on my family & myself. I didn't miss the POD part so much, but I couldn't stop thinking about how much I loved blogging again.

When I heard Substack was a place for writers I had to try it out! Now, I am here and it brings so much joy to my life. The endless topics I have to touch upon and also I real platform where my poetry can live. (Because let's face it, they deserve to be more than Instagram captions!) & of course the lovely people who also write and read on this platform have been such a gift in itself. There is more to say about all of this, I have some of my story on my Substack & I plan to keep sharing more. I'd love to connect to keep this conversation going. Thank you for asking me this great question and for giving me the opportunity to reflect on it & share about it too. Have a wonderful day 🤍
