What is Substack Notes? (and how to use it)
Without getting caught up in algorithms or short-form burnout
Substack Notes can feel confusing, overwhelming, or even a little controversial. Is it social media? Is it a feed? Should you post there at all? And if so… what?
I get it… learning a new platform can feel overwhelming… especially when it’s many things combined into one.
So I put together a video walking you through exactly:
What Substack Notes is
How it works
The difference between posting from your publication vs your profile
and how I use Notes in a way that genuinely supports my writing and creative world… and you can too.
If you’re wondering:
Should I use Substack Notes?
What do I post there?
Is there a strategy behind it?
How do I use Notes without feeling like I’m back on Instagram or Facebook?
…this video will help you understand a simple, aligned way to use it for your publication.
Specifically, I share:
What Substack Notes actually is
Why the Notes feed exists
How to post from your profile
What makes Notes different from your publication
The 3 ways I personally use Notes
What to avoid when posting that makes the Substack community cringe
And how my Substack Starter Kit (paired with my Idea Generator Bot + Growth Bot) can help you create Notes that support your publication instead of distracting from it
Whether you’re brand new to Substack or refining your creative strategy, this video will help you understand Notes in a way that feels intentional and aligned with your long-form work.

Great explanation, Megan. I had recently been asked how Substack if different from other platforms. I was able to explain posts and subscriptions but wasn't sure what to say about Notes given it looks a lot like other platforms. Now I have a good answer and know better how to use Notes to get my own articles noticed.
