I’ve been craving a new creative rhythm lately— one that’s not reliant on perfect conditions. That’s free from compartmentalizing my mom life from my deep work sessions…
I’ve been craving a rhythm that’s integrated into my life.
And as synchronicity would have it - a youtube video popped up yesterday that brought this very topic up.
It mentioned a baker who brought her son into the shop every day. She’d make dough and he’d play with flour below her. He’d help check people out or serve their orders.
He was made a part of her expression.
Which unlocked a forgotten memory for me: When I was growing up in my two family businesses- I too was made a part of them. Even if it took longer to get a task done, I felt important + helpful. I was part of the process.
I feel like I’ve lost that along the way… the integration.
I’ve gripped and felt scarce in my time- torn between what I want to create and giving the kids my full presence.
I put up strict boundaries and conditions about when and how I create that now feel funny and unnatural.
And if I’m being honest with myself- I feel like this is all keeping me from:
flowing with my creative expression
connecting with my kids
and showing them what I do while helping them find purpose in their joy too
…. Ultimately making my creative expression feel separate from my day to day life.
So this morning, I tried something new: a deep work session with my kids.
We all talked about what we each wanted to create.
We planned our “work,” I helped them get set up and then we “worked” our plan.
It wasn’t perfect (I was interrupted often including the moment I’m typing this) but I still got to write.
They saw me in the practice. And even better- they got to feel the joy of deep creative flow too.
THIS is what I want for myself, my kids and our family culture.
For them to not just hear about me creating when they’re with the sitter or their grandparents. But for them to see me create and to be invited into this rhythm and practice too — as a relationship, a shared curiosity, a lifestyle.
So today’s prompts offer a Creative Reset in how we think about + execute on our work. And in how we can more seamlessly weave our creative practices into our everyday lives.↓

What do I create out of compulsion — the projects that pour out of me because they have to be expressed? Not from the conditioning of content culture, but from a compelled-to-create energy.
