Weekly Video Journal Series

A visual scrapbook of our unschooling activities and intentional living from the past week
Loading...

that’s how creating my most recent Youtube video felt… and in that process I realized

  1. What I wish I would’ve done differently.

  2. And that I want to do more of this.

Hi- I’m Megan! A digital journalist and unschooling mom of two- who’s trading in the ‘shoulds’ for a life that feels good to ME. Creating my life my way and inviting you to do the same. Join our community to explore slow, intentional living and creativity at the intersection of motherhood with articles, videos and mini-courses.

What I wish I would’ve done differently.

Putting this video together felt like this beautiful cinematic scrapbook of our life.

  • Not only was it fun to review the footage, see it come together to the beat of the music and be able to easily share our trip with our friends and family.

  • But what I loved most was the edit before the one I posted.

    • The one where you could hear what was happening in the shots.

      • The crunching of the snow as Jack ran through the yard.

      • Sophia yelling “Mama look! I found somethin super kewlllll!”

As we do as creatives, my gut told me to post the video sans my voiceover but my brain told me I should post with it so it was “more valuable + interesting” to others who might watch it….

(Feel free to shake your head here with me🤣)

So I’m going to create more of these… my way

shares these mesmerizing Visual Journals each week and I’ve found it so inspiring to watch. And as I realized:

  • how much I enjoyed documenting our time

  • having a record of our unschooling activities

  • making it easy to share our lives with our family

  • how this is helping me fall more in love with my life

it felt possible to create in this way too.

So I’m going to see how it feels to document our weeks here.

This first week will be available for all subscribers so you can get a peek into what this column is about. Future postings will be for our paid community so I can freely share our family details and others can feel safe sharing about their weeks in community too.

What our week looked like:

February 23

  • Arrived home from Hocking Hills

  • Immediately freaked out at what a mess our house was and the contrast between the Airbnb/dream house we just stayed in.

  • Moved the furniture around to see if our current home could feel like where we stayed.

  • Had yet another existential crisis over if we should stay in our house or build our dream one.

  • Was invited to an intense drum concert in our living room with Collin and the kids.

February 24

  • Dropped the kids at Learning Cafe (their twice a week homeschool program from 9am-12pm)

  • Relaxed at the coffee shop next door, testing Capcut for creating my Youtube video and putting it together.

  • Headed to my Grandmas for the afternoon

  • Then off to gymnastics

February 25

  • Lego building and book reading after morning pad time

  • stopped for a morning tea and hang sesh (along with an always poignant card pull)

February 26

  • Lunch at the coffee shop afterwards

  • Pitstop at my mom’s office for a laminator and paper cutter and an afternoon spent bringing these amazing prints to life

February 27

  • A morning spent playing at my mom’s house

  • Weekly swimming with my dad at the indoor community pool (and laps for me)

  • A pitstop at the Twinsburg Library

  • Reading and tea time for me while the kids watched their pads until Collin joined us for dinner and bedtime

February 28

  • Chill morning pad/reading time

  • Followed by a panic when I realized we didn’t have Sophia’s birth certificate for our passport appointment the next day

  • Which lead to a trip to City Hall downtown

  • And an impromptu Aquarium trip

March 1

  • Family time in the morning

  • Passport appointments at the Library

  • A trip in town for light bulbs at the local hardware store, groceries and to mail my passport

  • Then kid dates (Collin with Jack + Me with Sophia) to wrap up the day

March 2

  • After a week of nightly wake ups from the kids we chilleddddd.

  • I kept reading Variation by Rebecca Yarros

  • The kids watched Leap Frog movies (we’re calling good shows “protein for your brain” now 🤣)

  • Then my amazing mother in law came over to hang with the kids while Collin and I grabbed lunch and went to my friend Molly’s Spirit-Free Bar for a sauna experience.

What about you?

What does one of your week’s look like? Have you thought about different ways to romanticize and see the beauty in the every day?

I’ve also been thinking about junk journaling at the end of each day too.
